Production art has been released for the new Cartoon Network series Transformers Animated. The new poster showcases art from lead designer Derrick Wyatt, former character designer for the series Teen Titans, and will no doubt get your attention just as the Glen Murakami Teen Titans designs had done previously. Eye-catching and full of energy, but not quite your Generation 1 Transformers designs, the fans will no doubt discuss the artwork for years to come. The series is being produced by Cartoon Network executive producer Sam Register and supervising director Matt Youngberg, both of Teen Titans fame as well. Marty Isenberg of Danny Phantom, X-Men, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles will be the show's head writer.
Regardless of how you feel about the designs, I hope people will refrain from declaring their opinions too loudly until they have a chance to actually see the show. Personally, I think the designs are refreshing and awesome but I hope the story isn't set for too young of a demographic. We'll have to wait and see, I suppose.

I'm going to have to disagree. The designs have that weird style that WBA has been using for the past few years where the characters' thighs are so freakishly large that they look unrealistically disproportionate with the rest of their bodies.
Why are they so used to designing their characters like these now? It doesn't turn me off from the show, but I just don't see the appeal.

I agree with that! I remember the first time I saw early Teen Titans designs. My first thought was, "What the hell is this?" It looked very different from the comics and also quite different from previous DC Animated shows. I still gave the overall series a chance and Teen Titans quickly became one of my favorite animated programs of all time.
Automatically thinking that something will stink just because it looks vastly different from what everybody is familiar with is unfair. It's funny, because I said something similar to some old friends who first thought Beast Wars would be a complete and total failure just because the Transformers were animals done in 3D CG animation.
So, like Teen Titans, I'm going to give Transformers Animated a chance before I quickly judge it. What I'm mostly concerned about more than anything else is the story. I'm just itching for a new Transformers series that can actually succeed at holding your attention.

I agree on what you said but still my first reaction on viewing was "The hell?...what is this and why is Optimus wearing gloves?" It's not so much the style that took me off guard but some of the robot designs look like they are not capable in transforming into the vehicles displayed below. Still it's easy to compare it to the TF series from the past when you know each new series is going to bring in something that is different from the old stuff, in this case it's a whole new style in animation. So for now I'm keeping an open mind until I have actually seen more of it.
Couldn't agree more, with so many series out there it's the story that can impress me more these days than the ones that try to dazzle you with their visual spectacle, it's nice if there is a balance but a good plot is half the work. Hopefully this new TF show will reach above the average level on some of the previous attempts, and perhaps will have slightly less human characters in it. This was the main reason why I was so very disappointed in most of the new shows which clearly had the title "Transformers" but the humans took up most of the screen time in each episode.

I usually don't care 'bout design as much as I do good plots and interestin' characters, and since I'm used to the designs of Teen Titans Go! and Ben 10, this won't be that big of a shocker, even though I'm familiar with the more "traditional" and 3D animation styles that were in the other Transformers series.
The thing I'm most worried 'bout is that it'll turn out to be one of those short-lived animation series that just rides the post-blockbuster movie wave until it wears out and then fades away except for a small fan base. Just like Godzilla, MIB, and so many others have done.
Some were good series, but they were just underappreciated.
Of course, with Transformers, it's only a matter of time before another reincarnation appears in another form, bein' one of those classic concepts that thankfully will never die permanently, but still...if this new series is good, it'd be nice to see it last at least a few seasons.

I don't mind Optimus Prime having a goatee if the goatee can transform into a deadly weapon like a killer lazer gun or a nuclear missile.

I always have that sort of feeling whenever I watch an episode/movie where Megatron transforms into a gun.
"Someone use me...I'm dangerous!!"
Design-wise, it seems like the animation community is moving away from the hard, pseudo realistic stuff and trying to be pop kid friendly. I was wrong about Legion of Superheroes so I'll give this show a shot.

I have to admit, I was initially put off by the inital designs shown to the public (which, unlike Teen Titans, appear to be the final versions) but when seen in motion they're actually quite well done. While remix of the original 80's them grated on my nerves after a while, from was shown it seems like this series will contain more homages to the original. Plus, we got previews of Starscream, Blackarachnia(!!), Arcee, and the token main human character.

like it. It screams Derrick Wyatt. That rocks.
- Starscream's voice was awesome.
- Using Megatron's movie design wasn't so bad.
- Holographic motorcycle driver was cool to see.

It looks good, for the first time since the original G1 it actually looks like a full fledged traditional animated show unlike the last bunch of series we had to endure in the last couple of years.
I'm relieved to see there are a lot more characters than the initial promo material showed, I mean the Dinobots who would have expected to see those again? Also it's great that many despite the different style in which it's animated have strong resemblances to their original designs of the old series, good way to appeal to the new and older fans. The only thing that I cannot and probably never will accept is that Prime has to have a lips, the face plate looks so much better and it defines his character.
Starscream, it was just one sentence he got to say in that clip but what a great tribute to Chris Latta, it instantly felt right at home.

I saw the trailer. And the series looks like it has some good potential. The artwork and style of the animationis was very teen titansish though. But I think as long as there is some good storylines behind the new transformers the cartoon wil be okay.
