It sucked and I could not have prepared any harder than I did.
I was a 3.9 GPA student and I spent 3-4 months studying for my Naplex. I scored very high in my Pre-Naplex which helped build my confidence. I failed.
My Naplex was awful. I had all of the tough math questions that NONE of my friends had. I had obscure drugs and obscure brand names to deal with in almost every question. TPN and HIV questions galore. I had to adjust TPN electrolytes to fix patient's abnormal lab values. I had to know whether a TPN would go into a central or venous line. I won't even go into the HIV questions I had. I had some of the most obscure infectious disease questions and several questions with pregnant woman who were had an infection and pick the best drug for them.
My mandatory antidote question was also obscure. Why couldn't I have the Mensa, folic acid (luevecorin) for methotreaxate or NAC for tylenol poisoning question. Instead, I get some damn poison that I never even heard of.
I felt like I had been beat over the head with a 2x4 during my exam. It pissed me off that I failed and one of my classmates who graduated with the lowest GPA in the entire class (he also took 5 years to graduate) passed the Naplex without studying. he scored in the very low 80s.
So, I got very unlucky and got a Naplex exam with some of the craziest test pool questions. Yes, I even had a pKa math question which NO ONE I know had on their exam.
Here is one of my questions: What class of antiarrhythmic drug or which of the following drugs does cardiac toxicty associated with a particular TCA (I won't name it) occur via the same mechanism? I had a Class 1A drug, a class 1b, a Class 2, and a Class 3 drug to chose from. ****, all I knew about this TCA is that it caused QT prolongation.
Test advice: don't study, it won't help. You'll probably do better than I did.
A bigger overachiever,
Dan

Hi,
I'm sorry to hear about your awful experience with the naplex. I have failed my naplex twice and I don't know how to study anymore. I worried like crazy and was wondering if you ever ended up passing the exam? Is there anything that you could advise me to do to do well on the exam the third time around?
Thank you!
