Hi
Myself and my friend Gemma are final year medical students at Manchester, UK. We are coming to Dar on 16th Aug 06 for at least 5 weeks for a placement with Muhimbili College of Health Science. We were hoping to get university accommodation but we aren't sure if this will be possible! Any suggestions on accommodation? Ideally a safe, cheap location walking distance from the hospital. Not sure whether to go with a hostel or a rental property? Any specific suggestions?!! Thanks

I too, along with 3 friends of mine, am going to Muhimbili University in Dar es salaam, for my medical elective. We are 5th year medics at Imperial College London - but will be going after you, around November-Jan 2006/2007.
The staff at MUCHC are really difficult to get hold of, and the information on their website about electives is totally out of date. We eventually had to phone them to get a reply!
And they told us that accomodation and food is NOT provided (even though they would still charge us the $200 or so in fees). They said the cheapest hostels would be £10 a night minimum - which would leave us unable to rent a 4X4 and go on the search for lions  Let me know how things go on there?
