 Packing, and Other Personal Idiocies

I have discussed this before, either on Abuzz, or here. but now I really need help. For those who don't know, I am really a rather normal person, (well, pretty normal,) except when I have to pack for a trip.

The usual scenario is to have a complete meltdown before I have to pack. I pull everything out of the closet, and end up taking much more than I need. There is no rational reason for this. I know that it is nuts, but the anxiety escalates, until I stuff the last little piece into my suitcase.

This summer, I was pretty good. I went on a short trip to NY, by plane. I knew that I was going to limit myself to one carry on bag, and that the weather would be warm. So I packed with relative equanimity.

NOW I will be going on a motor trip across the western states, for the entire month of September. I figure that if I need to take enough for ten days, so that I will do a wash about once a week or so.

We are going to take a more northerly route that we took a couple of years ago. So........that means I might need shorts, I might need jeans, and I might need jackets. I might need light short sleeve shirts, elbow length, or long sleeve shirts............even a sweatshirt or two. The mind boggles, and I am driving myself crazy. The funny thing is, I usually end up wearing the same few outfits the entire trip.

This thread is not for advice on how to pack. Believe me, I know how. I need emotional support in embarking on this venture, or I will drive myself bonkers!

I've been there. The low point was probably when I packed WAY too much for a 6-month stay in England. I love to travel but I'm also a homebody, I like to have my little cocoon to come home to. But I was absolutely cursing the chest (CHEST!) I took when we (E.G. and I) had to muscle the horrible thing from friend's house to tube to airport... bleh...

But on my most recent trip, I packed everything for my whole family for almost a week in Texas into just carry-on bags. Didn't even have to check anything. One for me, one for E.G., one for sozlet. Had just enough, including sozlet's favorite toys, wore everything (I think one shirt went unused), and even had room left over to take home stuff we were given while there.

Summer packing is easier though, you're right.

Still, you can do it!!
