All kids are scared or nervous when they have to go to “big school” for the first time. That’s how some students feel when they go to a completely new university, like the first day of first grade. This is why UNISA is there to help those that do not want to go through that feeling again. Sure, it’s only for the first few days that it’s like that, after that you make friends, but those few days feel like forever.

UNISA is a distance learning and teaching institution and it is different to other universities because if you study through UNISA you will study from home. Studying can be done in your own time but it is important that you set aside a certain time everyday to study. In order to do this type of studying you have to have self discipline as there are no classes you need to attend and no timetable to follow. When you register for this university you will be given your own printed study material in the form of study guides. This will help you to differentiate your study times along with the text books you will need.

Every now and then you will receive tutorial letters from your lecturers. All the letters you get need to be filed but there is one specific letter that is most important of them all, that is tutorial letter 101. It is important because it gives you all the details about the work you need to do, the due dates, exam times, etc. When it is time for examinations, you will be contacted and told where to go. This is the only time you will have to meet up with other students at the same place.
