What is a Field of Study?
College means new experiences, meeting new people and freedom to make your own decisions. After you have chosen a college your next step is consider which field of study you want to focus on.
There are both major and minor fields of study. Before we define a major and minor field of study it is important to understand the basic definition of a field of study. A field of study is the specific college curriculum that you plan on receiving a degree in. For example if you want to be a nurse then your field of study would be nursing.
Now, to go into further detail. A field of study is broken into two parts. A major field of study is the main curriculum that you are focused on learning about. Major fields of study include criminal justice, law, psychology, computers, education, medicine and more. Each of these major fields of study leads to a minor.
A minor field of study can be described as your second choice. For example if your major is journalism then you may minor in communications. With as minor in communications you have more careers and mediums that you can work in that revolve around the field of journalism.
A field of study is directly linked to the type of career that you desire. If you want to be a physician then your major field of study would be medicine, while your minor field of study may be psychology. Take your time choosing your field of study. A field of study is one of the most important decisions you will make during your college career.
