How to Finance your Education


Ideally, Mom and Dad will foot the bill for your tuition and living expenses. Now lets get onto the other 98% of us. There are creative ways to finance your college education and hopefully graduate with minimal student loans. Using a combination approach, it is possible.

Combining scholarships, grants, work-study programs, savings plans and loans are the best way to finance your education. Applying for as many scholarships as possible will increase your chances of being awarded the money from one of them. If you are a minority there are scholarships just for you. If you are not there is probably one for you too. These days there are scholarships for just about everyone. Speak to your college advisor or go online and start searching. Applying for grants is easy and depending on you’re financial need are relatively easy to get. Your campus financial aid office can get you started on the application process. This same office can also give you options regarding work-study programs available on campus. If you work while going to school, visit a financial advisor who can help you find creative ways to grow your money and hopefully keep student loans to a minimum. Even when applying all the above advice eventually, you may have to look at a student loan. Hopefully if you are using the above combo approach, your loans will be minimal. There are Federal student loans or private loans available. Do the research now so there are no surprises after graduation and repayment begins.
