International Internships

When deciding between international internships and working abroad, your ultimate goals must play a major part in your decision. The US is actually the best place to get experience in international careers as many of the organizations are located in the US. If you are looking for an overseas experience, a volunteer internship may be the way for you.

Organizations such as the Peace Corps offer a well-paid program that consists of two years experience in developing countries. Many student loans can be deferred while participating in volunteer work. If your interest lies in a career with developing countries, this may be the best route for you. International internship’s opportunities can be hard to come by unless your field of interest is engineering or business. This does not mean they are not out there. Talking to your student advisor or even other students might give you ideas you had not thought of. If you speak more than one language there are positions available teaching English and may be paid or unpaid. Working with a reputable organization to find the international internship that is right for you are vital. With work permits and travel arrangements things can get confusing so having a partner just makes sense. Spend some time on the internet and you will see many opportunities available for internships. If you find a smaller company that doesn’t offer internships, approach them with the idea. Upon entering the workforce you will have something special on your side and international friends in the same field.
