What better way to prepare yourself for the real world than diving right into an internship. This is on the ground practice and can be a valuable experience for any student, not to mention how great an internship looks on your resume.

Paid and unpaid internships are available in almost any field of interest. If a company that interests you does not offer an internship program, bring the option to them. Approach them with the idea of an unpaid internship and it’s benefit to the company. While it may be nice to find a paid internship, unpaid internships pay off in the end. Your resume will look much more impressive if you can demonstrate a history of loyalty, hard work and initiative. Any college campus will offer assistance in finding the right intern program for you. Some degree programs require a certain number of hours in the field and completing an internship can give you a leg up in your course work as well. Imagine in the classroom how much more you can contribute to the discussion when you have been in the trenches and experienced the day to day functions of your chosen employment. You may even decide to change your employment goals based on your experiences as an intern. Maybe your chosen field isn’t what you expected it to be, and what better time to figure that out when you are still in school and can adjust your goals. Get in there and try it.
