Students Working

Many students have no choice but to seek out employment while continuing their education. While it would be wonderful to focus solely on school, costly living expenses dictate that many students have at least a small stream of income.

Relying on a job instead of loans to make it through school may be taxing, but in the long run it is better for your bottom line. There are many part-time jobs available for students. Employers are generally amiable to working with school schedules, especially when you make it clear up front that your education is your priority. Service industry jobs, such as serving or bartending can provide a steady income in minimum hours. One of the benefits of the service industry is that you can work at night and keep your schedule light. Paid internships are available and offer an additional benefit in the form of experience. Whatever your career goal, finding an office or firm in that field gives you a chance to try out what you want to do and get paid for it. Consulting an on campus advisor or employment service should give you the direction to find a paid internship in your area of interest. Working while going to school may put a lot on your plate but if you want to have some fun at school you need some spending money. Ask your advisor or counselor if there are any on campus jobs available or for any ideas they may have to find employment.
