Food Budgeting for The Traveling Student

Food budgeting for students while traveling is a concern. Many students enjoy fast food. And put little thought into what it will cost them or how it will dwindle their finances. Students should consider eating cheap, like carrying a cooler with food in it. Sandwiches are always a cheap way to fill the belly while traveling.

If students are traveling together they can consider splitting the cost of a hotel room that has a stove and fridge or kitchenette. They should buy enough food to last on the entire trip and make meals as needed. Students could also look into purchasing a book by Food Network author and personality Rachael Ray who offers great tips on spending $40.00 a day on food and expenses. A student on a food budget who is traveling can benefit from this.

Other ways to reduce food cost is to eat light, carry snacks when out and about. Snacks can benefit a student this will keep them from getting hungry or fatigued. Some great snacks to think about are carrot sticks, celery sticks and anything that will not cause thirst.

Students traveling on a food budget should also consider a plan that they can use to map out meal times. This way they would know when they would need to return to their hotel to make and consume lunch or dinner. Students should also consider eating a good breakfast before leaving their hotel or other place they are staying. This can help save money when out. Carrying a sports bottle with water in it is another good way to save on expensive drinks, since most spring waters are nothing more than tap water. Students can refill the sports bottle for free at water fountains.
