Volunteer Students Travel The World

Student volunteer programs span the globe. Students in high school and in college are able to use their time off from school to help others in need around the world. From small villages teaching children to protecting animals on wildlife preserves in various countries, student can volunteer across the planet.

More and more students have decided that making a difference to others is more important than just sightseeing. Often these volunteer internships will include sightseeing tours, but the basis of the whole idea is to make a difference in the lives of others. Though in some instances the life changing effect is on the volunteer.

Usually the trip begins with In Country Orientation. This involves meeting the leader of a group, taking language classes, taking excursions to get to known the locale, and meeting the locals. The orientation will help the student immerse themselves in a totally different culture, many times which is rural. At times the volunteers will begin the orientation with a few travel adventures or sightseeing trips to whet their appetite for the country.

Next is volunteer job placement. This is when the student volunteer is matched up with the proper job for him or her. During this time the student will meet and get to know their host family if they are in a plan that involves home stay. Student volunteers are free to come up with ideas to help their target group outside of the projected volunteer activity.

Sometimes in the final weeks of the stay, students are taken on more sightseeing trips and adventures. Depending on the company or volunteer group, this may be longer than a week or only a few days.
