Students: Travel and Enjoy Natural Sciences
Students with an eye on natural sciences will enjoy a trip to Costa Rica. The small country is only the size of West Virginia but has a more diverse biology than North America and Europe. Exotic animals and amazing forests give students something new to learn about each day.
The Sarapiqui Conservation Learning Center provides students with the chance to learn what it is like to be a field ecologist. Students go on excursions into the rainforest, build a hypothesis, and analyze data to learn implications of how the enviroment has been affected by different issues.
Students can also participate in canoe trips on the Sarapiqui River. One these water rafting expeditions, students will experience an exciting white water rafting trip, be able to see exotic animals such as king fishers, howler monkeys, and cormorants. After a strenuous trip down the river, students can also visit the Arenal Volcanic springs and relax in the natural hot springs that have been created by one of the worlds’ most active volcanoes, Arenal.
Students may also explore the Monteverde Coud Forest while zip lining through the forest treetops. This height gives students the unique perspective of rainforest birds. After communing with the top of the forest, student can visit the Monteverde frog pond where over twenty different species of frogs live. Students can even have a chance to handle the amphibians. In the immediate vicinity is the Monteverde Butterfly Garden, an enclosed tropical garden that houses hundreds of butterflies.
