What to look for in a Language Study Program Abroad


There are many things to consider when choosing a language study program abroad. Experts collectively agree that the fastest way to pick for anyone to pick up a language is to through an immersion study program. Luckily, there are programs offered throughout the world that will allow you to study in an atmosphere where everyone speaks the language you desire to learn. Learning a foreign language really should be no different than how we all learned English- by living it! Not only will you be attending formal language classes, you will be using a foreign in every aspect of your life. From trips to the market, to restaurants, and site seeing ventures you will get a first hand account of how language is used on a daily basis.

Now that we’ve determined immersion is best way to study abroad, let’s talk about some of the other things to think about when choosing a foreign language program.

While classroom studying is only a small part to learning a foreign language, it is integral that you attend formal classes. Having a teacher is a great asset when it comes to learning the grammar and vocabulary to truly communicate in a foreign language.

Living with a host family is a wonderful way to submerge yourself 24 hours a day within another language and culture. While many programs offer this opportunity, some will place you in a dormitory living space with other students. Host families though an excellent way to increase your knowledge of the language. They will be the first friends you make and can be an informal teacher when it comes to conversational discussions in another language.

There are so many places to see in the world; by picking a language and a country that you have specific interest in will help you master a foreign language. Plus you can see places the Roman Coliseum, The Great Tower of Pisa, the Eiffel Tower, the Amazon River, and so many more historic and iconic places. The world is your classroom and all you have to do is enroll!
